CLASS TITLE: Coordinator of ELL and Migrant Services

REPORTS TO: Chief Operations Officer

EXEMPT STATUS: Exempt

BASIC FUNCTION: Assists teachers in fulfilling the goals of the second language program by providing the appropriate language supports to the students assigned to such classes. Assists in the implementation of education programs by providing comprehensive assessments, evaluations, and instruction guidance.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Prepare appropriate grant applications to maintain viability of the program.
  • Monitor the budget for assigned programs.
  • Supervisor and evaluate employees in the ELL and migrant programs and insure compliance and submission with all personnel records.
  • Provides appropriate language supports to students in consultation with the certified classroom teacher.
  • Coordinates teachers, parents and local school personnel in fulfilling instructional goals of the programs, including appropriate student learning experiences outside of the regular school calendar.
  • Assists teachers, interpreters, in communications with parents of students assigned to the ELL Program. 
  • Assists teachers, interpreters, in maintaining and reporting student assessment progress. 
  • Plans and implements parent and child interactions and activities.
  • Maintains accurate records on the program and provides data to appropriate personnel.
  • Plans regularly with staff and participates in appropriates school meetings and activities.
  • Complies with policies, rules and regulation of the school District and of any state and/or federal regulatory agency where appropriate.
  • Maintains regular attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing ELL programs and services.
  • Knowledge of best practice assessment practices and assessment guidelines.
  • Administrate best practice in staff supervision and employee evaluation.  Record keeping techniques.
  • Specific program to which assigned.

ABILITY TO:

  • Supervise staff in addressing the requirements related to English acquisition and academic proficiency.
  • Administer state assessments required for district monitoring

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing 
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching 
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:

 

Experience:

  • Three years of successful teaching experience.
  • Experience in working with children and parents with special needs, multi-cultural and multi-ethnic backgrounds.

Education:

  • Equivalent to the completion of an earned Baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university in educational administration.

 

Certification Requirement

Possession of certification as required by Kentucky law.
